New Workshops Added in August
I have so many people who want to visit Portland from out of town that I've added a special 2-Day workshop to accomodate them (but don't be shy if you live in Portland). I've already had students from Alaska, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Tenensee and Canada, so why not go for all 50 states? Here's the info:
2-Day Encaustic Painting Intensive: Basics & Beyond
August 16 & 17, 10 am - 4 pm each day (3 spots left!)
No experience is necessary for this quick start wax collage and painting class. We'll start by learning the basics of wax painting and fusing and practice techniques including layering, transparency and wax stamping using wax in an assortment of vivid colors.
On day 2 we'll build on your basic skills but we'll go well beyond the basics. I'll share my secrets on how to make image transfers, use stencils and add lots of texture to your waxy masterpieces. Find out more here.
Advanced Encaustic Painting
August 18, 10 am - 4 pm, (3 spots left!)
I rarely teach this advanced class so take this opportunity if you can! I'll show you how to paint with a variety of materials on wax including dry pigments, powdered graphite and shellac to produce unusual and distinctive results. Many of these techniques require use of a propane torch, so if you haven't used one before you'll learn that too! Students must bring an N-95 rated mask for working with pigments. Please note: This advanced class requires attendance in at least one introductory and one intermediate class, or equivalent experience. Find out more here.

Notes on the National Encaustic Conference
The Second National Encaustic Conference in Massachusetts, was a huge success! I offered 2 demonstrations, teaching all about using stencils and masking techniques with wax.
Visit my blog to view my impressions and photos from the various, workshops, lectures and demonstrations. It has already been announced that the conference will be held at the same venue next year, on the first weekend in June 2009 so start saving now!
