I am an artist and art instructor living in Portland, Oregon.

Originally from a little beach town in Hawai'i called Kailua, I moved to California and graduated from Humboldt State University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1992. That same year I was awarded a scholarship to the California State University Summer Arts program to work on the 20" x 24" Polaroid camera which is only one of only three cameras of its kind in the world.

I showed and sold my art nationally for several years before discovering the lure of interactive media. In 1995 I opened an Internet consulting business in California. After over a decade of working as a web site designer and programmer, I have returned to creating my art.

My work pairs modern digital photography with the ancient technique of encaustic painting. Beeswax, resin and pigment are layered to produce a deep, translucent surface that captures and reflects light. I often collage other materials into the wax medium, including dried plants, natural fibers, and handmade paper. The translucency of the wax creates layers of information: color, text, rhythm, and texture. I am infatuated with the details of the natural world. My work gets up close and personal with the bits you flick off your coat and the stuff that crunches beneath your shoes.

My work has been shown in galleries throughout the United States and on Home & Garden TV's urban craft show, "That's Clever!" I am the author of Embracing Encaustic: Learning to Paint with Beeswax and founder of the Oregon chapter of the International Encaustic Artists (IEA).
