After living in a new house for a while, did you ever decide that you wanted to rearrange the rooms to make better use of them? Something like that has happened on this site. After some valuable feedback from students, we’ve decided to change our classes to better fit how you want to learn.
Starting now, you can begin any class you register for immediately–no waiting for a class to begin! If you can buy it, you can see it right now. What’s more, you have access to all the videos, class notes and community chat for six full months from your day of registration. Your instructor will answer questions online during the first seven days of every month, and you’ll be able to discuss your projects with other students in your class during the entire length of the class.
For more information on how the classes work, see our How Does It Work? page.
(Intermediate level class) Transferring photographs and drawings onto wax is quick and easy, and gives a beautifully rustic effect. I’ll show you several methods of making transfers, many of which use inexpensive art products you probably already have in your studio.
I’ll also show you how to transfer drawings and tracings directly onto your wax with some of my favorite materials including graphite, pastels and colored transfer papers. With some practice you can even overlap several transfers between layers of wax.
(All levels welcome) No painting or drawing experience is necessary for this encaustic collage class, but even those with some experience will benefit from the tips, tricks and resources shared in this class. You'll be amazed at how simple it is to collage with wax instead of glue to incorporate papers, photographs and dried plants.
(All levels welcome) No experience is necessary, but even those with experience in encaustic will benefit from learning how to really control your paint. We’ll start with a quick painting exercise to practice the basic fusing techniques using a heat gun and especially how to keep the wax where you want it. Later we'll move on to techniques involving scraping, layering, and incising lines. You’ll learn how to lay down the wax without air bubbles and get a smooth finish but I’ll also show you how to add texture to your paintings. I’ll teach you the equivalent of a dry brush technique using wax and show you how you can break (or at least bend) the “fuse-every-layer” rule.
(Intermediate level class) The crackle finish is a shellac-based resist that you paint onto warm wax then super heat until it cracks, leaving an elegant organic finish that would be impossible to paint by hand. This finish requires the use of a propane torch so if you aren't familiar with how to use one you'll learn that too.

I think you’ve done a fantastic job with the lessons and videography. It’s nice to be able to see things in ‘real time’, step by step, which is often not possible with books – and I have read your book by the way, and thought it very useful. Your personality comes shining thru on each video, and shows how much fun you’re having doing this. —Sue (New Zealand)
