Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Neighborhood Emergency Teams (NETs) are groups of citizens trained and certified by the Portland Fire Bureau to provide disaster assistance within their own neighborhoods. For certification, NET trainees attend 25 hours of basic training on the following topics: disaster awareness, home and community preparedness, basic fire fighting and first aid, disaster medicine and triage, public health considerations, and urban search and rescue.

Portland Fire & Rescue currently certifies about 130 NET volunteers annually. NET Volunteers come together in the event of a major emergency and provide support services to emergency service providers in their neighborhood.

To find out more about NET or how to become a NET member, call (503) 823-4614, or view this pdf. Classes are free and are offered several times during the year.
